Description
Always wanted to grow and enjoy the heavenly fragrance of a Lilac but haven’t had the room for such a large shrub? Meet Bloomerang Dwarf Pink, a miniature Lilac that when all grown up reaches on 3 feet tall and wide. What’s more she blooms heavy in spring and then reblooms again in summer and fall. The sweet fragrance draws in the butterflies so plant this one in the ground or pot close to or on the patio, deck, porch or other outdoor living spaces where you can enjoy the wonderful fragrance and the butterfly show. You’ll be happy to know that all the Lilacs in the Bloomerang series are vigorous growers and have demonstrated excellent resistance to mildew and deer. Just plant it in a spot that gets at least 6 hours of sun per day, soil that’s not too wet, and enjoy the show for years to come.
Note: Though we see the Bloomerang Lilacs listed for growing in USDA Zone 3 to 7, we’ve had good success with them here in north-central georgia zone 8a. That said, we plant them in a location that provides afternoon filtered sun. Further north they perform best in full sun, which means 6 or more hours of direct sunlight per day.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a compact rounded mound on 2.5 to 3 feet tall and wide, the Bloomerang Dwarf Pink Lilac is a perfect fit for smaller garden spaces and containers. Plant it to line a walkway or path, under windows, as a low hedge, or anywhere you want color and fragrance with minimal care. A fine addition to fragrance gardens, pink theme gardens, cut flower gardens, butterfly gardens and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 2 feet apart for solid hedges; 5 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Bloomerang Lilacs are easy to grow in a moist but well drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade, depending on your climate. Well-drained soil is a must. Constantly soggy soil is a killer. In the cooler northern zones plants will grow in full sun. In southern zones 7b-8a we suggest some shade or filtered sun during the hottest part of summer afternoons. Prefers a soil pH close to neutral. Add pelletized lime if your soil is extremely acid. Fertilize once, in early spring, with a light application of an organic plant food or slow-release shrub & tree fertilizer. No pruning necessary however can be pruned for shaping purposes after the spring bloom.
