Description
A very unique and easy-to-grow North American native, ‘Blue Forest’ Juniper is a low and spreading evergreen conifer with ascending plumed branchlets that make it look like a dense, tiny forest of cedar trees. With the arrival of cold temperatures, its eye-catching dense blue-green foliage turns to darker tones of blues and purples providing enhanced interest in the winter landscape. At 8 to 12 inches tall and spreading 3 to 4 feet wide over time, Blue Forest is ideal for use in design as an accent in smaller garden spaces or in groupings or as a groundcover in larger spaces where it will also spill over walls. As with its J. horizontalis cousins, it is highly tolerant of cold, heat, drought, poor and rocky soils, which lends well for use as an erosion controller on sunny embankments and slopes. Hardy in USDA Zones 3-9.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 9 to 12 inches tall and spreading 3 to 4 feet wide, the Blue Forest Juniper is ideal for use as a an accent in smaller garden spaces or in groupings or as groundcover or border in home foundation plantings, landscape borders and for erosion control on slopes. It will cascade over walls and is a great choice to underplant small trees such as Japanese maples and crape myrtles to name a couple. A fine addition to conifer gardens, blue theme gardens, rock gardens and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
Suggested Spacing: 3 to 3.5 feet apart for mass plantings; 6 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences
The Blue Forest Juniper is easy to grow in most any well-drained soil of average to low fertility. As with so many other ornamental plants, constantly soggy or wet soil can cause root rot and other harmful plant diseases. Best in full sun however will tolerate some light shade. We suggest at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
