Description
A member of the Gold Collection Helleborus Series, Ice & Roses ‘Rosetta’ is the earliest blooming of the numerous lenten rose varieties we have growing in our gardens. Depending on the weather and temperatures, you might see blooms appearing as early as late fall and then continuing through most if not all of the winter. Perched in abundant clusters atop sturdy stems that rise above a mound of rich green foliage to 16 inches high and 24 inches wide or more, the single, saucer-shaped flowers have overlapping pink petals flushed with soft yellow surrounding a burst of yellow stamens with a red carpel. The long-lasting flowers are excellent for cutting and display in a vase, floral arrangement or bouquet. Virtually problem-free and exceptionally long-lived, this delightful winter bloomer thrives in partially shaded garden beds, even under the canopies of large trees, as well as in container gardens for situating on patios, porches, decks and around other outdoor sitting and living spaces. One of those few flowering plants that will always have you looking forward to winter!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 16 to 18 inches tall and 2 feet wide or more over time, the Rosetta Helleborus is ideal for use as an accent in smaller spaces and containers or in groupings, massed as a groundcover in landscape and woodland borders, or as a border along walkways and paths. Perfect under large shade trees, decks, covered porches and any other shady location. Don’t think you have any shade? Look on the east side of your home. A fine addition to shade gardens, winter gardens, beneficial pollinator gardens, pink theme gardens, cottage gardens, cut flower gardens and woodland gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 18 inches apart for mass plantings; 3 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Rosetta Helleborus is very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and part shade to shade. Though Helleborus will tolerate mostly sun in cool-summer climates, we think they look and perform their best with part shade to full shade, which makes them perfect for planting under tall decks, large shade trees and other shady areas. Morning and/or evening sun or all-day filtered sun is fine. Direct afternoon sun, especially in USDA Zones 7 to 9, is not suggested. Plant with the top of the root ball even with ground level. Care and maintenance are minimal. Feed in spring with an organic plant food.
