Description
Finally, a more heat-tolerant and less-finicky Pieris! If you’ve tried to grow Pieris in your landscape or gardens in the past without much luck ‘Mountain Snow’ Pieris is here to change that. We have one planted near our garden pond and it’s done splendidly with absolutely no care other than an annual feeding in spring since planting in 2014. Mountain Snow offers interest in the garden with both foliage and showy blooms. During summer, attractive clusters of pendulous flower stems loaded with buds appear that will persist through winter before opening early the next spring to beautiful bell-shaped ivory flowers. Following flowering attractive bronze new leaves emerge that mature to dark green. Excellent in garden beds or containers.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing about 4 feet tall and 3 feet wide, Mountain Snow Pieris is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings, mass plantings, or as a natural hedge in shady to partially shaded landscape and woodland borders and home foundation plantings. They do especially well on fertile embankments, hillsides and slopes. We’ve had good long-term success growing Mountain Snow in pots, planters and other containers and it’s a fine addition to Asian-theme gardens, white theme gardens, and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 2.5 feet apart for solid hedges and mass plantings; 6 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Plant your Mountain Snow Pieris in a moist but well drained acidic soil that are rich in organic matter. Add organic compost to heavy clay or poor quality native soils. Pieris prefer growing in a site that provides morning sun with afternoon shade or all-day filtered sun or dappled shade. Avoid direct afternoon sun.

Just planted my Pieris this spring, so can’t give much feedback on it yet. But I have ordered from several online nurseries and the plants from Wilson Bros were some of the largest and best packaged. The customer service was also great!——————————————-We are so glad you are pleased! Beth | WBG
I ordered many plants from nurseries on line this spring. This one is by far the biggest and best. It arrived in a timely manner and in excellent condiition. I wish I had bought everything from Wilson Bros Gardens.———————————–Thanks for the great review! Beth | WBG
The plant came exactly as described with very thorough packaging for a safe delivery. It is now showing new growth after planting it. I would recommend this plant and company to purchase from!—————————-Thanks for the great review! Beth | WBG
As always, I’m impressed with my purchase. I originally ordered 2 Mountain Snows and both arrived in great health but one died for unknown reasons shortly after purchase. I contacted staff to help troubleshoot the issue. When none could be identified, they were gracious enough to issue me a $30 credit. I used this to help replace my lost Pieris and the replacement flourished. Both appear to have overwintered perfectly in my zone 5b foundation beds. I can’t wait to see the blooms open in spring. ———————– WBG Reply: Hi Lauren! The plant arrived, as promised and was well packed….healthy looking and good size. However, I will not know until next year how well it will survive the winter. ————————– WBG Reply: Hi Fred – Thanks so much for taking the time to provide your review of the Mountain Snow Pieris. Most of Flagstaff, Arizona is in USDA Zone 6. Mountain Snow Pieris is listed as cold hardy to zone 4a, which means you shouldn’t have a problem with it surviving the average winter low temperatures. During winter, just maintain a moist to damp soil (not soggy or wet) as you would throughout the rest of the year to avoid freeze drying of roots. I ordered the 3 gallon Pieris. The shrubs were smaller than I was expecting, but they are not available in my area so I was thrilled to get them. The plants were very healthy. Unfortunately the box broke during shipping, so 2 of my shrubs had significant breakage. I emailed a photo, and Wilson Bros immediately sent replacements. I was very impressed with their service. Thank you! ———————- WBG Reply: Hi Karla – Thanks so much for taking the time to provide your review of the Mountain Snow Pieris you purchased from us.
