Description
The easiest rose you’ll ever grow, and the most floriferous! In our gardens, the Double Red Knock Out Rose blooms more that any rose in the Knock Out Family – heck, of any rose period! From March to frost it’s almost always in bloom. The bright red double flowers are produced in abundance and look much like a classic rose. It is just as disease resistant as the famous Original Knock Out Rose and is slightly more cold hardy. If you have no other Knock Out Rose in your garden plant this one!
We have yet to find any other roses that are as consistently disease free as those in the family of Knock Out Roses. Every year, folks send us new roses to try that are touted to be “care free” or “disease free” but, in our gardens, none have come close to rivaling the Knock Out Roses when it comes to disease resistance. So, if you want truly disease-free and low maintenance roses, the Knock Out Roses are your rose!
Knock Out Roses have stunning flower power with a generous bloom cycle (about every 5 weeks) that starts in spring and continues to beyond frost. All of the Knock Out roses are self cleaning so there’s no need to deadhead, unless you want to.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 4 to 5 feet tall and wide, the Red Double Knock Out Rose is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings or as a colorful hedge in landscape and flowering shrub borders and home foundation plantings. This rose is so reliable and attractive throughout the season we have no problem suggesting it for use in home foundation plantings. A fine addition to rose gardens, cottage gardens and red theme color gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 4 feet apart for hedges; 8 feet apart for space between plants
Note: For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 5a, where this Knock Out Rose variety is not winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
Double Red Knock Out Rose is the easiest rose you’ll ever grow.
Knock Out Roses are exceptionally easy to grow in average, moist but well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. As with all other roses, to avoid powdery mildew on the leaves, morning sun is a must to dry dew from the leaves. Afternoon shade or filtered sun is fine. We suggest 6 hours of direct sun light for best flowering.
Maintenance is minimal. Knock Out Roses do not require pruning, however, they do benefit from it. To keep your Knock Out Rose full and bushy from year to year prune the branches back to about 15-18 inches above the ground in late winter or early spring. After this hard pruning, your Knock Roses will quickly flush out and start blooming with the arrival of warmer spring temperatures. Deadheading spent flowers through the season is not necessary however will encourage new buds and flowers.

Only three weeks in the ground and our new double red “knock out” rose plant is thrilling me with its form, health and prolific flowering in such a relatively rapid time period! I am so pleased by the plant itself. It arrived in near mint condition, with a root system keyed in for quick transplant success, and literally within days, the rose was replete with buds, bursting forth from every branch! The “Knock Out” double red rose in truly a winner and makes the choice of ordering only from Wilson Bros. Gardens a very easy choice indeed!
